Our library would not be the great place that it is without the help of our library techs. Library techs are fourth and fifth grade students who applied, were selected, and have been trained. Some help younger students in the computer lab, others help check out books to students in kindergarten, first, and second grade. Some library techs open up the library at 8:30 and turn on the computers and help shelve books, others come in during their recess to shelve books, and still others come in at 3:15 to help shut down the lab and library.
Katie says this about being a library tech.
I feel really lucky to be a library tech. It has gone really well. I have
been having lots of fun. I usually go on Wednesdays around 12:00 and I help
out with Miss Roche's first grade class. I think it is fun because I can meet
other kids and it makes me feel good to be able to help others. Besides, just
being in the library any day is fun! I think it is a great way to get Involved
in our school. As a bonus we even get to learn a few more things ourselves
like techniques on how to run the computers. As another bonus we get to eat
lunch in the project room ........ sometimes. I appreciate being selected
as a Library Technician!
Alanna says the following:
I am a Librarian Technician and it is really fun. Sure, sometimes you have to give up a recess or class time but it is worth every minute. You get to know younger kids along with the chance to learn more about the computers. I think it is better than recess even if it interferes with your class time. It is a good way to teach other kids and learn from other kids. After you are done it is a good feeling when you think back and realize "I taught a first grader how to do their work." I think it is very cool.
According to Meagan:
I am a Library Technician for Miss Roche's first grade class. I work with them once a week in computer lab. At 12:30 I go down to her classroom and find out what they are doing. Then they go to the lab. I help a group of the kids while they're on the computer. We tell then what to do when they forget and help them spell. It's fun to get to know the younger kids and work with them. Being a Library Tech. is a lot of fun!

Are you wondering what Library Technicians are all about? Well I thought that you might want to know what I do. I work at 12:15 for Mrs. Stefani's kindergarten class. First I check-in all the books that the kindergarten kids bring in. Then I copy the list of kids that forget their books and write a note to all of them to remember their books. After that I bring the list to Mr. Schick and lay out the cards and picture books so the kindergarteners have a veriety of books to choose from. Next I shelf the books while I'm waiting for the kids to check out the books. When they are ready I go to the desk and check the books out for them. After they leave I clean up and leave. I love helping primary students check out books. So I hope you want to become a technician one day too!
